Welcome to Church School!

Children at Emmanuel will find a place where they can explore their faith through learning, fun and friendships! In 2009, Church School visited the Community Food Pantry and helped sort and pack baskets for those in need.

Church School offers a Christian education program for children ages four to 12 years old. Child care is available in the Nursery for children under age four. The Nursery and Church School classrooms are located on the second floor of the Parish

The first Sunday of each month is “Children Shall Lead” Sunday, and the children of the parish take an active role in the leadership at the service, and remain in the church for the service.

The third Sunday of each month, the children have a special “Children’s Eucharist” which takes place in the parish hall during the Sunday School time.

Church School Curriculum

The Emmanuel Church School uses the Beulah Land Curriculum developed by Gretchen Wolff Pritchard at the Children’s Mission of St. Paula and St. James Episcopal Church in New Haven, Connecticut. This curriculum combines stories from the Bible (by using a felt board) with coordinated activities and projects (including arts and crafts).

Acolyte Church School

All children who have reached their eighth birthday are welcome to train and serve as acolytes. Acolytes attend all worship services, so their Sunday School classes meet at 9:30 on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.

How do Church School and Sunday services work?

Children join their parents in the Church at the beginning of the 10:30 am service, then leave for Church School while we sing the hymn preceding the Gospel reading.

Church School concludes at 12 noon. Children are escorted by their teachers to the Parish Hall where they join their parents for coffee hour and refreshments.
